WNS have just completed the installation of a new Brand Rex OM4 fibre optic network to improve a government security system that was failing due to outdated OM1 technology struggling with modern day bandwidth demand placed upon it by recent hardware upgrades. WNS were asked to test the existing fibre cables and provide a report and recommendation of how to solve the issues. It was discovered on the survey that the original fibre technology was OM1 therefore the recommendation to upgrade to OM4 to handle 10Gb was an easy fit. Due to the nature of the works, our SC cleared engineers worked outside normal business hours to install the cabling. The installation saw 500m of OM4 Brand Rex TB fibre installed and spliced to 128 pigtails across 6 locations.

WNS were engaged by the client to work as part of a service team in a 7 phase office restructure in Swansea. This involved the relocation of cabling network for approximately 60 desks and the installation of new cabling to 20 desks. In total 320 Nexans Cat 6 cables were affected. The programme involved day, night and weekend work times to minimise staff disruption to this busy office.
WNS have recently completed the installation of 1,000 CAT6 U/UTP outlets at a broadcasting company in West London. This included all fibre backbone, switch links, frame & WAP installs. Plus 2000 existing infrastructure outlets were tested, fixed if necessary & validated as this was part of an office consolidation project.
WNS have recently been engaged to diagnose a faulty fibre optic cable which was thought to be limiting the service to 80 network users in a remote building. WNS staff performed extensive testing using an OTDR and determined that the cable had been badly damaged in a collapsed duct. The original fibre was of OM1 internal construction and therefore not suitable for a duct or consideration for repair. WNS have subsequently replaced the fibre with a new 12 core Brand Rex OM4 Loose tube duct grade cable which has restored full network connectivity to the building.

The staff were migrated on to the new cabling system during the phased installation and the existing cabling system was decommissioned.
WNS successfully completed the installation of 1016 Cat6 Brand Rex UTP cables fed from 3 zones. A new Prism 47u 800 x 800 cabinet was installed in each zone and was fed by a 16 core fibre and 150 pair voice links from the MER.

WNS have been engaged by a major UK energy supplier to carry out the IT cabling restructure in conjunction with the major refurbishment of the clients national control centre in Suffolk. This project is planned to take approximately 6 months and involves the relocation of staff in phases from the control centre to temporary premises to allow for the refurbishment works to take place in each respective area. WNS are required to fit out the temporary premises with a suitable LAN infrastructure along with the moving, adding to and changing of the existing infrastructure in the control centre to suit the revised office and desk plans. All new and existing LAN infrastructure cabling is TE branded keeping in line with the clients stringent quality requirements.
WNS have installed 300 Cat6 outlets, 2 x 47U cabinets, fibre & multicore links to three floors of a government building in Carmarthen, this was to establish a decant area in the building. Cat6 cabling , 8 x cabinets fibre & multicores links will then be installed throughout the 3 floors on a scheduled programme of work.

WNS have been engaged to provide a new campus LAN for a major utility company site restoration project in South London. This project will take place over the next 9 months and involves the installation of approximately 4km of duct grade TE OM3 optical fibre cable and over 600 category 5e UTP network outlets. The optical fibre backbone will serve the LAN and CCTV system which is extensive across this large site and the UTP outlets will be split across 3 buildings one of which is a new build.

WNS has been awarded the next phase of a government building refurbishment. The project involves the installation of 1,500 Brand-Rex Cat6 outlets to floor boxes throughout the 4th floor west & south wings. The cables will be routed to 6 No new 47U cabinets. The existing 16 core fibres that originally served the old redundant cabinets will be re-routed and extended (via fusion splice boxes) to their new locations. The original 100-pair multicore cables that also served the old cabinets will also be re-routed and extended (via box cons) to their new locations.

As part of a staff consolidation process from rented office space to owned office space, one of the UK’s largest power distribution companies has committed to the re-furbishment of one of their buildings in Camden, North London. The fit-out will take in five floors of owned office space which will be bought up to modern day standards from its current 1950’s décor. WNS have been engaged to supply and install a new TE structured cabling system to include up to 800 LAN sockets and an OM3 optical fibre backbone between communications rooms. WNS are helping with the cabling and containment design by providing the services of their RCDD staff member to ensure the installation meets current international and European Standards. Building works have begun on site and it is anticipated that WNS will be required on site to begin cabling towards the end of February 2014. The client’s staff are due to move in in early July 2014 and WNS will provide staff to assist with the relocation of personnel and their IT kit from the rented office space as part of an overall service.
As part of a major electrical substation upgrade directly related to the crossrail project, WNS have been appointed to install new Connectix category 6a cabling throughout the premises for LAN and voice connectivity. The substation has 5 sub level floors and 2 comms rooms which WNS will link together with OM3 fibre and voice connections. This site is extremely high profile and is subject to the most challenging health and safety restraints due to the nature of the premises. WNS are on target to complete this work on time and on budget.

WNS has recently completed a CCTV installation for a residential block in Tower Hill, London. The cameras installed range from entry level analogue units to ingress protection rated High Definition internet protocol cameras with integrated heating circuits to prevent moisture during the wet winter months. The majority of the cameras used were supplied by Genie CCTV systems with whom WNS have now formed a partnership. WNS have installed a whole new TE UTP infrastructure to serve the cameras which is completely contained in a combination of PVC and steel galvanized conduit whose junction boxes are fitted with tamperproof security screws. To capture the recordings of the camera network a new 2TB AVER hybrid network video recorder capable of handling a combination of 20 analogue and IP cameras was installed. The NVR connects to a network switch supplied and installed by WNS to allow for the IP cameras to function. All active kit is connected to the internet via a new BT broadband circuit to allow the customer to view and interrogate the system remotely from any PC, Android, IPhone or Ipad device.

WNS are proud to be associated with Brand Rex as they recently announced that their global organisational and operational activities achieved Carbon Neutral Status in accordance to PAS2060 - a new carbon neutrality standard launched by the British Standards Institute (BSI), developed with input from government, public and the private sector.
WNS engineers have recently completed their Brand-Rex Design and technician refresher courses.
WNS recently completed an installation for a UK Energy distributor, providing WIFI connectivity for staff over 6 floors of the Company HQ building in London. WNS Engineers installed a total of 50 Cat5e UTP cables supplying 2 outlets per WIFI device (one cable for primary use and the secondary as a backup) Engineers installed 25 Cisco WIFI Access Points mounting them to the ceiling grid within their given areas of use.
WNS is currently surveying multiple sites across the South of England & Wales for a Wifi connectivitiy installation project, the wireless access points will be installed out of normal business hours in July and August. The Wifi connectivity will enable the client to offer a more flexible service within it's sites.
WNS London based project manager Leigh Marshall has completed his Substation Entry Level Training Course. The training was undertaken due to the large number of structured cabling projects WNS undertake within this sector and the need to increase our number of management staff and engineers with Certificates of Competence for carrying out work activities in substations.
WNS continue to build & strengthen their relationship with a London based Production Company and is currently carrying out the following works on one of their sites in London.
- Structured Cabling ‘Health Check Remedy’ – following recent testing onsite, WNS are replacing a number of faulty or broken data outlet modules and shutters, rectifying faults & re-testing failed outlets on their existing network.
- Supply & installation of a new structured cabling system in one of the departments
- Supply & installation of a Fibre Optic Single Mode Patch Lead uplink between the Ground & 3rd Floor Comms Rooms to improve connectivity
WNS have been awarded the contract to undertake the installation of 3 No new 42U cabinets, 700 Brand Rex Cat6 outlets, new fibre and multicore links between floors for a Government Office in Mid Wales.
The contract was awarded after WNS attended various site surveys and planning meetings. Some phases of the project will be undertaken outside of normal working hours to minimise disruption to the staff.
WNS have recently engaged with a new client in central London. The client is a prestigious college who currently occupy a number of listed buildings which require a great deal of thought and care even for the smallest installations. WNS recently completed a 4 day project which involved fitting out one of the buildings with a new Excel structured cabling solution. Every outlet on this job required containment of some description to achieve a discrete finish that blends in with the building surrounds. This project was completed on time and within budget and has provided a solid foundation for our new relationship going forward.
WNS have completed an installation in central London for a major UK Energy provider comprising of 336 TE Cat5e LAN outlets and a sprinkling of wireless access points. Due to an aggressive time scale and noise restrictions on this project, WNS staff were required to complete a good deal of the work outside of normal business hours. To achieve authorisation for out of hours works, dispensation and permits were required and arranged in advance with the building manager. The end result was a happy customer and a satisfied building manager.
WNS is currently involved in a large rollout project providing LAN connections for clocking in/out Kiosk Machines. The Kiosk Machines are used by staff to log-in and enter their details when they arrive and leave the premises.
WNS recently completed an installation for a UK Energy provider which involved providing a LAN connection for an Orange Mobile Aerial Booster and the supply and installation of TE Connectivity Cat5e UTP cables for a Portakabin Meeting Room.

WNS have completed a Network cabling Infrastructure Health Check across four floors for a Production Company based in London.
WNS are currently involved in a site roll out project for a UK Energy provider within the East and South of England, including the London area.
The project is to replace Sub Station Entry Keys with a Digital Key to allow the business to control the access to its sites through restrictions and monitoring. WNS are involved providing a LAN connection to a modem that controls a Digital Key Reading Device. The Key Reader is used by staff to register and then regularly charge their new Digital Keys for access to their designated sites.

The office in the building of the former headquarters of the Conservative Party in Victoria Street, London required a reliable network capable of running the latest technologies such as video and web conferencing as well as providing staff with high-speed internet access.
Prior to commencing the installation, Whitepack Network Services assisted with the IT infrastructure design, recommending a Brand-Rex Cat6Plus solution to ensure the new network infrastructure would meet the needs of the Welsh government.
The office, officially opened at the end of July by the Welsh First Minister.

Brand-rex Partner whitepack network services have successfully designed and installed a cat6Plus system for the newly refurbished Welsh Assembly Government buildings in Cardiff. WNS were appointed to manage the design and install by fujitsu last year.
The buildings at Cathay’s Park, Cardiff required a reliable network capable of running the latest technologies such as video and web conferencing as well as providing staff with high-speed internet access. Prior to starting, WNS assisted with the IT infrastructure design and made recommendations to ensure the new network infrastructure would best meet the needs of the Welsh Assembly Government. The existing Category 5 cabling was stripped out from beneath the raised floors then replaced with the Cat6Plus system. The optical fibre patch panels were then replaced with new Brand-Rex patch panels and the existing optical network reconfigured using fusion-splicing onto pre-terminated multimode pigtails and ST connectors to reduce signal loss and deliver higher transmission speeds.
The project involved over 1,500 cables and 408 quad outlets to floor boxes with a combined length of more than 55,000m.

WNS have successfully completed the installation of 512no. Brand Rex Cat6 cables, plus fibre optic and voice cable backbone within timescale for a Government regional office.

The project involved meticulous planning and tight timescales to ensure that the business was not put at any risk. The project was completed on time with positive reports posted by all involved on the client’s IT team with whom WNS were working closely with throughout the project.

WNS recently installed ADC Krone Cat 6 cabling and Brand Rex optical fibre cables at S4C Television centre.
134 Krone Cat 6 outlets were installed from a new cabinet to floor boxes and dado trunking on the ground floor. The existing 40 Cat cables were disconnected and re-routed to new locations, 4 x 12 port Cat 6 harness links were installed between the new cabinet in the Edit Car Room.
16 core OM1 Brand Rex fibre links were installed between 2 cabinets on the ground and one on the first floor.
WNS were recommended to undertake this project because they had successfully installed 639 ADC Krone Cat 6 cables during the previous refurbishment some 18 months ago.
Working closely with S4C Television I.T. staff the project was completed on time with minimum disruptin to the smooth running of the television studio staff.
During the past 18 months WNS has installed structured cabling at the QED building as part of a phased refurbishment programme.
New Multicores and fibres were installed from the central server room to four wings of the two storey building, with new cabinets located at each wing.
At the server room the existing voice panels were removed and replaced with Brand Rex 50-port panels, to minimize disruption this work was undertaken during a weekend.
Regular progress meetings were held with the Government representative, consultants and the main contactor to ensure that each phase was completed on time with minimum disruption to the office staff.
Two more wings have recently been completed bringing the total quantities installed to:
• 11,360 metres of Brand Rex Cat 5 cable.
• 55,600 metres of Brand Rex Cat 6 cable.
• 600 metres of Brand Rex 16 core optical fibre cable.
• 500 metres of 100 pair multicore cable.
• 500 meters of 50 pair multicore cable.
• 7 x 47U Prism cabinets.
