Brand-rex Partner whitepack network services have successfully designed and installed a cat6Plus system for the newly refurbished Welsh Assembly Government buildings in Cardiff. WNS were appointed to manage the design and install by fujitsu last year.
The buildings at Cathay’s Park, Cardiff required a reliable network capable of running the latest technologies such as video and web conferencing as well as providing staff with high-speed internet access. Prior to starting, WNS assisted with the IT infrastructure design and made recommendations to ensure the new network infrastructure would best meet the needs of the Welsh Assembly Government. The existing Category 5 cabling was stripped out from beneath the raised floors then replaced with the Cat6Plus system. The optical fibre patch panels were then replaced with new Brand-Rex patch panels and the existing optical network reconfigured using fusion-splicing onto pre-terminated multimode pigtails and ST connectors to reduce signal loss and deliver higher transmission speeds.
The project involved over 1,500 cables and 408 quad outlets to floor boxes with a combined length of more than 55,000m.
